As part of the Herren Associates team, Cardinal Engineering was awarded a task to provide technical and engineering support to NAVSEA PMS 320, Electric Ships Office. The effort is for design, development and testing of the Hybrid Electric Drive (HED) Electric Propulsion System (EPS) for the U.S. Navy DDG 51 class ships. The HED will reduce fuel consumption by using the existing ships Gas Turbine Generators (GTGs) to power an electric motor attached to the Main Reduction Gear.
