In support of the U.S. Navy’s Office of Naval Research (ONR), Cardinal Engineering and partners RTX BBN Technologies Corp. and Northeastern University were selected to develop a Science and Technology (S&T) Roadmap that will move today’s state-of-the-art robotics technologies to future robotic systems capable of performing fully autonomous maintenance and repair on unmanned surface shipboard systems. Leveraging our in-depth knowledge of U.S. Navy Fleet systems and maintenance requirements and our partners robotics and artificial intelligence expertise, our team were tasked with identifying the capabilities and associated technologies required of robotic systems to perform in the maintenance and repair domain and autonomously maintain mission capability of the US Navy’s future Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) fleet, enabling these future ships to have longer deployments with sustained warfighting capabilities.
