Immediate Opening: Engineer, AM Support for Navy Ships or Submarines

Cardinal Engineering is currently seeking an Engineer to provide Additive Manufacturing (AM) engineering support to Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).

Successful candidates will solve challenging problems related to incorporating AM components and technology onboard Navy ships or submarines. Candidates will coordinate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, TYCOM, Program Offices, SUPSHIP Newport News, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Ship Repair Facility (SRF), Newport News Shipbuilding and other activities to resolve technical matters. Responsibilities include providing technical support and assessing risk for technical decisions made by Ship Design Managers (SDMs).

Engineering degree with 5+ years of experience. Experience must be with one or more of the following:

• AM technologies and methods for different materials
• Performing risk assessments to support approval and implementation of AM parts onboard Navy ships or submarines to repair and replace obsolete, long lead time, or otherwise difficult to procure parts
• Developing ship specifications for Navy ships or submarines to define requirements for installation of AM parts and AM equipment/machines
• Supporting approval and development of NAVSEA Technical Publications, Project Peculiar Documents, serialized correspondences, and other requirements and procedures to formalize and ensure acceptability of AM for the Navy
• Supporting installation efforts of AM equipment/machines onboard Navy ships or submarines
• Facilitating the installation of AM parts onboard Navy ships or submarines to support availability and deployment timelines

Experience with a shipyard, Naval Surface/Undersea Warfare Center (NSWC/NUWC), Supervisor of Shipbuilding Command (SUPSHIP), Regional Maintenance Center (RMC), Type Commander (TYCOM), or similar organizations supporting construction, operation, maintenance, modernization, and/or repair of AM components and equipment is required. Candidate should have excellent project management and communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to work well with minimal supervision. Ideal candidate has prior U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, or Military Sealift Command engineering experience, preferably with nuclear powered ships. Experience working with NAVSEA technical authority and experience working with non-technical leadership is a plus.

Candidates will be based out of the Washington Navy Yard with part-time telework. Occasional travel will be required in execution of assigned duties. Must be a U.S. Citizen and currently possess a SECRET security clearance.

Salary commensurate with years and applicability of experience ranging from $90K – $115K.
